A 19-year-old Ohio woman is alive today after a harrowing plunge into a freezing river, all thanks to her Apple Watch.
Andi Burns was driving home from work in Batavia Township when her pickup truck hit black ice and flipped upside down into the Little Miami River.
Trapped in the pitch-black and unable to reach her phone, the watch’s “Crash Detection” feature automatically alerted 911 dispatchers to her exact location.
During the terrifying emergency call, Burns was heard praying “Please God, please,” as she struggled to breathe in a tiny four-inch air pocket at the floorboards of the submerged truck.
First responders from the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office arrived to find the cabin almost entirely filled with water; they had to smash a window to reach her.
Despite the life-threatening ordeal, Burns walked away with only minor bruises.
